What We’re Writing
We have read proof of a corrected, pocket-size issue of our annotated edition of Farmer Giles of Ham by Tolkien. This is to be published by HarperCollins this spring.
We have completed work on a new, annotated edition of The Adventures of Tom Bombadil and Other Verses from the Red Book by Tolkien, which includes earlier versions of the poems. This is scheduled to be published by HarperCollins in October 2014.
We have been consulted about a new printing of The Lord of the Rings for its sixtieth anniversary, continuing the text we revised ten years ago for the fiftieth anniversary.
Issue no. 33 of The Tolkien Collector was published in December 2013. Issue no. 34 is in progress.
Much new data has been collected for a second edition of Wayne’s J.R.R. Tolkien: A Descriptive Bibliography, as well as corrigenda for the first edition (1993, covering works to mid-1992), but it is still premature to predict a date of publication. Oak Knoll Books expressed an interest in publishing a second edition, but much time has passed since they did so, and Wayne will have to reinitiate the discussion.
We are continuing work on a book about the artist Pauline Baynes. Earlier conceived as an annotated catalogue of our own collection, we are crafting it now as a fuller bibliography, based also on the Pauline Baynes archive which came to the Chapin Library at Williams College in February 2009. In turn, our existing bibliographic data are helping to create a detailed inventory of the archive (some 3,000 works of art, plus the artist's business papers and working library of 2,000 volumes).
Wayne has completed writing the catalogue of a private collection of rare astron0my books, with bibliographical descriptions and explanatory notes. It is hoped that this will be published before long, but whether in print or electronic form is not yet determined.
We are also writing occasional blog posts.
